    1. Posted on my blog buriedunderromanceSet in the 16th century with the political backdrop of young King James V, two sides are disputing over the right to become regent for the king Wallace Grant and the Duke of Albany Adam Cameron, laird of Bonniebroch, is an ardent supporter of the Duke of Albany and has agreed to marry Cair Grant, Wallace Grant s daughter, to end the dispute Adam was not expecting much from this marriage of convenience, but upon seeing Cair s fiery righteousness and beauty, he [...]

    3. Finished it Not bad, sexy, light and fun with realistic details I finished it in about two hours I give it 3 stars, which is great for a novella I would like to read in this series I m curious about the mirror.

    4. Another wonderful well written historical romance by Mia Marlowe Its a short easy read that leaves you with a smile and desire for from this talented author.Cait Grant has been sent by her father to her newly betrothed, Adam Cameron, Laird of Bonniebroch, and long time enemy of Cait s father Cait has agreed to murder Adam after they are married and a short time has elapsed Adam has agreed to the betrothal of this woman that he has never met since as laird he must marry and provide heirs If he c [...]

    5. I took a chance on this book since it was free on and by an author I had never read before Overall, it was a solid OK The plot isn t new an arranged marriage that seems to work out but, the slight paranormal twists make it interesting, without being the main focus of the book A conversation to clear the air between the hero heroine would probably have moved things along sooner, but then you wouldn t have a plot But, because it is a novella, it is a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

    6. 2.5 starsI liked the author s style, but the stars are mostly for Adam I just couldn t connect to the romance very well, even though I liked the premise and the heroine herself The curse element is interesting, but I don t know that magic really added to this story Some emotional pull was created by the heroine s predicament, considering what a good man she married, but it just wasn t enough Some of the best parts of the read were the quotes by the scoundrel Farquhar that began each chapter.

    7. This short story is not what I was expecting There is dark and light magic and a ghost who becomes a wonderful asset It is a good story to enjoy believing in fairy tales in a way It does leave a lot of questions on what could be Overall the conflict was solved and that chapter ended.

    8. 3.75 starsREVIEW PLAID TO THE BONE is the introductory prequel novella in Mia Marlowe s paranormal Highlander historical series As with many introductory storylines Mia reveals the source of a three hundred year old curse that will follow each laird of Bonniebroch until one is capable of breaking the spell.Plaid to the Bone follows Cait Grant as she is betrothed and promised in marriage to the current laird of Bonniebroch Adam Cameron but with it comes a price Adam is her father s sworn enemy an [...]

    9. Cait and Adam s love story was a joy to read.Marriages are not always welcomed as a love match in the 1500 s Often they are politically based on territory or simply keeping the enemy close through marriage Unfortunately for Cait and Adam this is how their marriage started out.Although it was a marriage of convenience, Adam believed that in time and with mutual respect it could blossom into a deep affection, if not love for he and Cait To this end he gave his new bride time to get to know him, or [...]

    10. Cait Grant comes to Bonnibroch as bride to Adam Cameron through an arranged marriage However, there was a twist, unknown to the groom, to this marriage Cait was under orders from her father, Wallace Grant to murder Adam within a month to prevent him for his support for you King James V as king of Scotland But Adam is really bonny and kind and sexy and everything Cait could want in a husband Cait has a secret supporter in Farquhar whom she saved from the pillory and who knows that there is mischi [...]

    11. This novella is a must read before you go to Plaid Tidings Spirit of the Highlands I am so glad I read it in order because it explains a lot about the curse that is put on the people of Bonniebroch.I love anything with a setting in Scotland, so this was just a perfect story to take me there.Ms Marlowe sure did a great job of painting the picture of the sixteenth century Scotland with all its political turmoil of young King James V.I fell in love with Adam Cameron, laird of Bonniebroch, and his i [...]

    12. I ve read a good deal of Mia Marlowe s other books and am usually happy with them This was my first Scottish Highland book and I wasn t disappointed The characters, as usual were well fleshed out and interesting She brings them to life and draws you right into their lives and their love, of course This one was slightly different as the heroine had an unusual quest, to kill her new husband after they got married Throw in a bit of mystical magic and promises made in blood and you have the makings [...]

    13. Highland Spirit and MagicHighland Spirit and MagicLaird Adam Cameron, Lord Bonniebroch had no idea what he was encountering when he returned to his keep He saw a wee Lass defending a man who was apparently being punished for some deed The fire in her eyes was enough to bolster an odd emotion.Caitlin Grant has come to marry her betrothed, Lord Bonniebroch it is a part of her planwhen she meets a man who helps defend a man she herself is defending, she is taken a back by his essence Then she reali [...]

    14. This is a sweet, little romance to read after watching Disney s BRAVE The dialogue in dialect snaps, and the setting and historical context are very well done The heroine is a feisty laird s daughter much like Merida but with a less selfish heart even at the beginning She s made a promise in blood, and that causes her all kind of problems relating to the hero While I loved the little man who helps them both and the excerpts from his journal the hero Adam is really too good to be true, especially [...]

    15. This was interesting It drew me in from the beginning with the deceiving plot of marrying then murdering her husband because her father wanted her too Of course she falls in love instead and can t go through with it But I do have a problem with that, when he finds out, despite the fact they couldn t died, he doesn t hold it against her or even talk about it, which I found odd I would think that his trust would have been affected at least a little if it s supposed to be realistic But that s just [...]

    16. As novellas go this one was fairly quick reading, Adam and Cait were likeable if not out of the ordinary as far as characters go in a Highland Historical romance The plot was pretty standard fare but still enjoyable, the pace was decent, the build up to the ending was steady and the outcome pretty much predictable while still being a nice HEA for the main characters.I think that as a prequel to the series this story was a nice way to dip into it without really committing to reading the rest as i [...]

    17. Note I read this in ePUB format, so page references may differ. The first book in Mia Marlowe s Spirit of the Highlands series, this book is a treat of a novella that can be read in one sitting I will read anything that Mia Marlowe writes I love her voice, the way she lovingly crafts a story that makes me want to read , the way her characters make me feel for them and what they care about, and just the simple and elegant beauty of her prose For my full review on my book blog bit 1ckrxPz

    18. The CurseThis is actually book one of the duology, where the curse is bound to castle Bonniebroch and it s people Plaid Tidings concludes the curse 300 years later. This story struggles, along with Cait Lady Bonniebroch, as to what honor, breaking ones vows, and true love consist of Where does loyalty lie Do vows extracted while being lied to become invalid upon discovering those lies What is truly important and truly evil A very good Read Buy both books at once so you can read straight through.

    19. Cait had gone to Bonnibroch to marry the Laid As daughter of the Chieftain, this was her future.Cait met Adam and he was very good looking man She was introduced to the Laid and was going in to clean up after all the traveling Cait s father told her of how is isn t a fair and nice man Cait before she had left had to swear an oath to kill him after one month of being married Adam knew he had to keep an eye on Cait, after all she was the daughter of his most determined foe.

    20. This book was good, short and to the point I enjoyed seeing the struggle with how she felt like she could kill a man that we all knew she is going to fall in love with He surprised me a little with how truly sweet and kind he was I know he is the hero of the story but still wow with the sweetness Not a bad thing, I loved it, just shocked me a little Apparently there will be , or at least this is what it led me to believe, so can t wait

    21. 96 pages but for a free read, what can you ask for Author did put a lot into this short story, but i found it lacking The first half of the book was just boring, I kind of pushed through it As mentioned before, it is free so read it if you choose to It just doesn t have the substance to grab the readers attention.

    22. I really enjoyed this book I love historic romance stories in Scotland I ve never been there, but always want to go Ms.Marlowe has a way of telling her story that you are actually there in your mind Experiencing everything her character are You definately need to read this book if you like Historic Scotland romances.

    23. I ve read worse, but I really couldn t dredge up any interest in this story and have no desire to read anything else in the series I liked the characters and probably could have enjoyed the romance if not for the paranormal aspects and deus ex machina ending they gave it a fairy tale or cartoonish aspect that greatly detracted from the human story.

    24. A very nice novella that kind of surprised me Going in I didn t realize there would be a paranormal angle and that lead to a different story from what I was expecting I would have loved but this was a great way to introduce the series Unfortunately the new angle made the ending a little bittersweet since it was kind of sad

    25. Charming little teaser story to start off a series Felt a bit short for where it was going, but it wasn t meant to be a full novel either, from what I can tell I ll definitely consider picking up subsequent books based on this one The writing was solid for me.

    26. This was a good short read, emphasis on the short However, I did get it free so I really can t complain The storyline was typical, but well written and it did serve to perk my interest in her other books Overall a good read, thank you
