    About "Nicolas Bouvier Emanoil Marcu"

      • Nicolas Bouvier Emanoil Marcu

Nicolas Bouvier 1929 1998 was a Swiss writer and photographer. His travels all over the world incited him to recount his experiences and adventures His work is marked by a commitment to report what he sees and feels, shorn of any pretence of omniscience, leading often to an intimacy bordering on the mystical His journey from Geneva to Japan was in many ways prescient of the great eastward wave of hippies that occurred in the sixties and seventies slow, meandering progress in a small, iconic car, carefully guarded idiosyncrasy, a rite of passage Yet, it differs in that the travelogues this journey inspired contain deep reflections on man s intimate nature, written in a style very much aware and appreciative of the traditions and possibilities of the language he uses He wrote mainly in French, though he does mention writing a series of travel articles in English for a local journal during his stay in Ceylon His most famous books are The Way of the World, The Japanese Chronicles, and The Scorpion Fish.

    1. 3,2 5So rich in its vocabulary, so beautiful The setting is the main reason why I picked up this book initially every book that is set on an island has this touch of magic ,and I enjoy that a bit with every read of this kind.I wish the story wasn t so disjointed and so opaque at times And I wish it was longer But I can t wait to read The way of the world.

    2. A story about author s trip in Sri Lanka Ceylon , about his inner torments, his love and hate for this mystic land and its superstitious, poor people A very rich vocabulary, lots of figures of speech, all spiced up with a drop of bitter humor I would have liked it even if it weren t sooooo many insects all over D

    5. Povestea unic i profund a sejurului de 9 luni pe care autorul l a avut n Ceylon n anul 1955, este o lectur canicular Mai mult dec t o istorisire, cartea te transpune n privirea i mai ales n mintea autorului n acela i mod n care toropeala il ame e te, sentimentul de ap sare te p trunde i te nsp im nt Timpul se scurge mult mai ncet n aceast lume tropical , iar izolarea l face pe c l tor un fin analist al lumii nconjur toare, unde dinamismul vie ii se m soar n activitatea micilor viet i colocatari [...]

    8. One of my favorite books of all time Again, a strange blend of fiction and nonfiction The author is in Sri Lanka and is going crazy with fever and heat He becomes obsessed with the insects that share his room and a Scorpion Fish that a local shopowner keeps in a glass jar on the shop counter Beautifully written, bizarre, and perfectly embodies the out of body feeling of travelling too long in places very different from your home.

    10. Allthough it is described as the sequel to Ways of the World it is very different Don t expect it to be the sort of traveling story that WotW is Poisson Scorpion is a travel story, but also a allegorical and poetic piece of reflection, and an experiment in meaningful fiction Some of its chapters I would rate 6 stars, others 2 or 3 The style changes per chapter.

    11. I m a big fan of Bouvier s style some might find it pedantic He has a big and rich vocabulary it mixes wonderfully in the mouth I haven t figured out his formula yet but it s pretty great Bouvier has a sort of detachment, a human detachment He just sits quietly there and observe with a very humane eye His thought always take me by surprise He repaints the world in a idiosyncratic way.

    13. A mixture of reality and fiction, a mixture of being surrounded by friends and being all alone. The language is beautiful, although a little difficult to follow sometimes, the descriptions are extremely rich.
